General Job Description: To produce a weekly informational newspaper pullout, social media content and live streaming via social media when appropriate about activity occuring at the Gallup-McKinley County School District (GMCS) and its various school sites. The pullout publication will contain interesting articles on GMCS initiatives, information, activities, and sports; with a positive captivating content and design for the McKinley County community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver newspaper pull-out in electronic format for publication
- Produce content for all social media platforms
- Design page layouts and assure the monthly newspaper pullout will contain sufficient articles and/or graphics to fill at least four pages (maximum content space of 11.5" X 14 " per page).
- Ability to convert any photos into printable formats
- Excellent knowledge of the English language
- Effective journalistic skills, including interviewing various sources/subjects and producing interesting articles from raw materials gathered from various sources.
- Write feature articles relating to GMCS
- Perform Web research and fact checking (when necessary)
- Proofreading
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Photography experience.
- Operating knowledge of Adobe programs and products
- Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
- Must be able to drive and travel, when necessary or as assigned
- Must be well versed in all social media platforms
- Create partnerships with schools and develop collaborative working relationships
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree not required but preferred. Experience as a news photographer and new writer is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired. The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.
Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hours and weekend work may be required.
Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.
