TITLE:  EDUCATIONAL DIAGNOSTICIAN

CLASSIFICATION:  Ancillary

DEPARTMENT:  Educational Dev. Center (SSC)

WORK HOURS:  7.5

CONTRACT LENGTH:  203 Days

 

Position:        Educational Diagnostician

Supervisor:    Director of Special Education

 

General Job Description:  To serve as a case manager for students in order to identify the most appropriate educational environment available to meet the student’s needs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Promote an environment/climate conducive to productive performance.
  2. Plan for and manage the resources for which he/she is responsible, including personnel, finances, facilities
  3. program and time.
  4. Communicate accurately and effectively.
  5. Use supervision, staff development, and performance evaluation to improve the program of the district.
  6. Demonstrate leadership.
  7. Comply with all school board policies and administrative regulations.
  8. Complete all necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  9. Acquire permission to test. Administer appropriate test. Interpret the results of each instrument
  10. administered in terms that can be understood.
  11. Explain rights to parents before testing and placement.
  12. Knowledge and understanding about each criteria requirements for each exceptionality.
  13. Knowledge and understanding about New Mexico standard for Special Education.
  14. Explain program levels, services available for the student, and make recommendations that will help the
  15. student reach his learning potential.
  16. Be available to meet with parents, staff, or administration.
  17. Ability to drive from school to school.
  18. Ability to participate effectively in the IEP process.
  19. Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the immediate supervisor and/or the superintendent.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

Attend workshops and in-service, to stay abreast of changes in standards, assessment strategies, and research findings.

  • Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the immediate supervisor and/or the superintendent.
  • Complete SafeSchools Training as directed by the district.

Qualifications:

  1. A master’s degree.
  2. NMPED Licensure for Educational Diagnostician.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired.  The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.

Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology. 

Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision.  After hour work may be required.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.

 

All GMCS schools are eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

 

All applicants must upload copies of official transcripts or evaluations of foreign transcripts from any and all accredited colleges/universities attended by you for review in order to be considered for this position.

 

Three letters of reference written within the last twelve months (one must be from current supervisor. (If this is not appropriate due to one’s employment status, please contact GMCS Personnel Office 505-721-1000).

 

GMCS employees:  Transfer Request Form needs to be signed by supervisor and uploaded to your application.

 

Eligibility Requirements:  To be eligible for the signing incentive, you must be a new employee who was not employed in any capacity by GMCS during the 2020-2021 school year.

 

ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION

All Ancillary Staff (Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Diagnosticians, School Psychologists) $10,000

 

The additional compensation will be prorated for hires made after the official work calendar start date but prior to September 30, 2020. Any hires made on or after September 30, 2020 will not be eligible to receive the additional compensation listed above. The recipient must teach in the eligible content area at least halftime to receive the compensation.

 

All other additional compensation is divided in equal installments payable throughout the school year in each pay cycle.
