Salary Range:

 

520 Certificate Only - $35,090 min. to $62,535 max.

520 Certificate with Teacher's License - $42,337 min. to $69,255 max.

 

 

To deliver the District educational program by teaching students academic, social and motor skills according to State and District education standards and other appropriate agencies, and to provide equal educational opportunities for all students. 

 

Summary

To deliver the district bilingual and/or home language educational program with the goal of students becoming bilingual and bi-literate in English and a second language and meeting state academic content and standards and benchmarks in all subject areas according to state, tribal, and district education standards.

 

Supervision Received and Exercised

  • Receives general direction from the Principal or designee.

Essential Function Statements:  Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Read, write and speak the home language (Navajo/Zuni/Spanish) and the English language proficiently.
  2. Accurately demonstrate knowledge of the content area and approved curriculum.
  3. Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught and/or assigned.
  4. Communicates with and obtain feedback with students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding with parents and staff.
  5. Appropriately apply the principles of student growth, development, and learning to enhance optimal student engagement.
  6. Develop, administer, and analyze student assessments
  7. Promote positive student behavior and a safe and healthy environment for learning
  8. Create a positive atmosphere conducive to promoting student involvement and self-concept, recognizing student diversity.
  9. Participate in the development and administration of district goals, objectives and procedures.
  10. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  11. Understand and respect the cultural diversities, and traditional beliefs and practices, of students and their families.
  12. Participates in faculty and professional meetings and professional development opportunities
  13. Performs all teaching requirements as required by the district/state
  14. Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Qualification/ Knowledge Requirements

  1. Basic principles of early childhood development including human growth and development, and special education.
  2. Content area theories, approved curriculum, and the objectives of assigned area of instruction.
  3. Teaching methods and resources for each assigned area of instruction
  4. Modern, effective and innovative teaching practices and techniques.
  5. Modern office and classroom equipment, including computers.
  6. The principles of student growth, development, and learning to enhance student learning and understanding.
  7. State and District curriculum guidelines or requirements.
  8. Cultural diversities of the local area
  9. Recent development, current literature and information related to bilingual education programs.
  10. Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and safety regulations.
  11. Knowledge of cultural traditions and practices of the Native American communities
  12. Analyze and interpret literature and apply to classroom practices
  13. Understand, develop and implement bilingual curriculum in conjunction with local, state and national standards.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

 

Experience:

One year of related work experience in a school setting is desirable.

 

Education:

Preferred but not required Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in education

 

Licensure and Certificates:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, the appropriate teaching license and endorsements in assigned area of instruction from the New Mexico State Department of Education or

New Mexico Native American Language and Culture PreK-12.

All GMCS schools are eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

 

Signing Incentive

 

Moving expenses for all new teachers will be paid in full on the first paycheck of the school year.  All other incentives will be paid out over the course of two school years in four installments.  Payment will be made ¼ in December of the first contract year, ¼ in May of the first contract year, ¼ in December of the second contract year and ¼ in May of the second contract year.  The incentive will be prorated for hires made after the official work calendar start date but prior to September 30, 2020. Any hires made on or after September 30, 2020 will not be eligible to receive the signing incentives listed above.  Failure to complete the terms of the employment contract will result in the forfeiture of the entire signing incentive.  The recipient must teach in the eligible content area at least halftime to receive the incentive. 

 

Free Rent and Utilities

 

All new teachers who work in the county and are choosing to live in district-owned housing will be offered free rent and utilities for the entire school year.  (All available units will be offered on a first come, first serve basis, with preference given to new hires for the 2020-2021 school year.)  The free rent will be taxed as a benefit.  Renters will not be responsible for any utility costs during occupancy. A housing unit deposit is required in the amount of $350 for a 1-bedroom, $450 for a 2-bedroom, or $550 for a 3-bedroom, which is deducted in four equal payments and is paid by all employees who are living in the district-owned housing.  Deposits are eligible to be refunded based upon the condition of the unit when a tenant moves out of the unit. All free rent is contingent on the employee being actively employed; individuals in volunteer status do not qualify.

Eligibility Requirements:  To be eligible for the signing incentives, you must be a new employee who was not employed in any certified capacity by GMCS during the 2019-2020 school year.

All Ancillary Staff (Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Diagnosticians, School Psychologists)

Special Education Teachers (excluding Gifted Teachers) (Must carry a full caseload)

Math Teachers (Grades 6-12) (Must be teaching Math a minimum of half-time - .5 FTE)

Failure to complete the terms of the employment contract will result in the forfeiture of the entire moving expense compensation.

 

The other additional compensation will be prorated for hires made after the official work calendar start date but prior to September 30, 2020. Any hires made on or after September 30, 2020 will not be eligible to receive the additional compensation listed above.  The recipient must teach in the eligible content area at least halftime to receive the compensation. 

The moving expense will be paid in the first pay cycle.  All other additional compensation is divided in equal installments payable throughout the school year in each pay cycle.

1All Teachers, other than English Language Arts Teachers, who are endorsed in TESOL shall receive the TESOL additional compensation in the amount of $2,000.

2ELL Students enrolled in English Language Arts classes, grades K-12, must be verifiable for English Language Arts Teachers to receive the TESOL compensation in the amount of $3,000.  TESOL endorsed teachers are only eligible for one TESOL addendum. 

3TESOL additional compensation in the amount of $3,000 only applies to English Language Arts Teachers meeting the criteria above even if Teachers of other subjects have ELL students enrolled in their classes.
