Description

SUMMARY:  Works with all employees to obtain or advance their NMPED licensure.  Collaborates with university contacts and alternative licensure program managers to help employees successfully complete teacher licensure programs.  Works to accomplish these expectations by performing the following duties.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties as assigned:

  • Interprets and disseminates professional licensure requirements for all certified and classified positions for staffing
  • Collaborates with university program managers, specifically WNMU and UNM, to monitor the progress and advocate for the needs of certified and classified employees enrolled in alternative licensure programs.
  • Provides support to all teachers and educational assistants on alternative licensure pathways by serving as a liaison between their respective universities, supervisor, and PED.
  • Provides program management assistance to the Curriculum and Instruction Department for the new teacher support and mentoring program.
  • Travels to job fairs to represent GMCS and advise potential applicants on licensure requirements.
  • Presents licensure pathway information to current GMCS students.
  • Provides accurate information to all applicants and employees on how to apply for New Mexico licensure and how to renew licenses.
  • Provides accurate information to current employees on the complete Professional Development Dossier process. Processes all licensure renewals for certified and classified employees.
  • Monitor and track licensure for all employees.
  • Provides transcript analysis to determine endorsements
  • Meets with all new hires to verify licensure is obtained.
  • Provides steps on how to complete licensure process.
  • Provides information on licensure reciprocity with other states and how it aligns with the New Mexico 3-Tier licensure system.
  • Provides required orientation for educational assistants licensure.
  • Monitors required mentorship program for level 1 teachers within the 3-Tier Licensure to ensure that level 1 teachers have required mentorship prior to submitting Dossier.
  • Prepares all correspondence for educators who were previous employees and are renewing licenses.
  • Records licensure and state data into iVisions (HR/Pay system). 

Knowledge of:

  • Proficient with database software and ability to develop forms.
  • Experience with Lawson software, MS Access software, MS Excel software; MS Word Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
  • Proficient with word processing, database and spreadsheet software. Ability to accurately keyboard at moderate pace.
  • Knowledge of NMPED’s requirements for licensure processes.
  • Knowledge of legal requirements for fingerprinting and background checks.

Ability to:

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Perform general clerical work including maintaining online files in a database and excel.
  • Operate standard office machines including a computer.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintain mental capacity which allows for effective interaction and communication with others.
  • Understand and respect the cultural diversities, and Native American traditional beliefs and practices, of students and their families.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:  Office and program management experience preferred but not required.

 

Education:  Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.

 

Working Conditions

 

Work with computers, meet with employees in cubicle, travel to school sites to meet with employees as necessary.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may become loud at times.
