McKinley Academy will be open to high school students for the 2018-2019 school year, and it will be located on the UNM Gallup campus.  Academic achievement will be the primary focus of McKinley Academy. Teachers will be supporting students to earn their Associate’s Degree and High School Diploma.

 

Supervision Received and Exercised

 

Receives general direction from the Principal or designee.  May exercise technical and functional supervision over supervisory, professional, technical, clerical, and volunteer staff.

 

Essential Function Statements - Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare course objectives and outline for course of study following State and District curriculum guidelines or requirements.
  • Lecture, demonstrate, and use audio visual teaching aids to present subject matter to students.
  • Leverage and utilize technology to deliver lessons and engage students
  • Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional and activity purposes; operate and care for various audio visual equipment; operate various office machines to prepare materials.
  • Prepare, administer and correct tests, record results; assign lessons, correct papers, and hear oral presentations.
  • Maintain a classroom environment conducive to age appropriate learning.
  • Counsel pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise; discuss pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
  • Keep attendance and grade records as required by the District.
  • Coordinate class field trips.
  • Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.
  • Perform all teaching competencies as required by the District and the State.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions:

  1. Participate in and/or share load in extra-curricular student and school activities.
  2. Perform related duties as required or assigned.

  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

Experience and Training Guidelines:  Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

 

Experience Preferred: College Level / Dual Credit Teaching Experience

 

Education:  Hold a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in the appropriate educational field.

 

Preferred Licensure and Certificates:   

  • Certified in two (2) core subjects (Math, Science, English, or Social Studies)
  • Highly Qualified
  • Minimum of Highly Effective State Rating

Physical Demands:

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job and are not meant to be all inclusive.  While performing this job the staff member shall:

  • Use strength to lift items needed to perform the functions of the job.
  • Sit, stand and walk for required periods of time.
  • Speak and hear.
  • Communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary.  American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
  • Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, computers, and/or controls.

In addition, while performing duties of this job, the employee will constantly stand/walk, bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling.  The employee is frequently required to use hands for fine manipulation, squat, kneel, knee stand, and push/pull.  The employee will occasionally be required to sit, climb stairs/ladders, lift and reach overhead, crawl, and lift/carry.  The employee must often lift/carry up to 20 pounds and must frequently lift/carry up to 50 pounds.  The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum weight of 10 pounds.

  • Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
  • Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
  • Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities.
  • Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment.
  • Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.
  • Works near video display
  • The employee is required to properly wear any personal protection equipment supplied by the District.
