Description

To deliver the District educational program by teaching students academic, social and motor skills according to State and District education standards and other appropriate agencies, and to provide equal educational opportunities for all students.

Supervision Received and Exercised

 

Receives general direction from the Principal or assignee.

 

May exercise technical and functional supervision over supervisory, professional, technical clerical, and volunteer staff.

 

Essential Function Statements - Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare course objectives and outline of course of study following the State ad District curriculum guidelines or requirements.
  • Lectures, demonstrates, and uses audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to students.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional and activity purposes; operates and cares for various audio visual equipment; operate various office machines to prepare materials.
  • Prepares, administers, and corrects tests, and records results; Assigns lessons, corrects papers, and hears oral presentation.
  • Teaches rules of conduct; Maintains order in the classroom and on the playground.
  • Maintains a classroom environment conducive to age appropriate learning.
  • Counsels pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise; Discusses pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
  • Keeps attendance and grade records as required by the District.
  • Coordinates class field trips.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Participate in and/or share loads in extra-curricular student and school activities.
  • Performs all teaching competencies as required by the District/State.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications Requirements:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Basic principles of early childhood development including human growth and development, and special education.
  • Classroom management.
  • Content area theories, approved curriculum, and the objectives of assigned area of instruction.
  • Teaching methods and resources for each assigned area of instruction.
  • Modern, effective and innovative teaching practices and techniques.
  • Modern office and classroom equipment, including computers.
  • The principles of student growth, development, and learning to enhance student learning and understanding.
  • State and District curriculum guidelines or requirements.
  • Educational foundations of a school district, including the organization, administration, funding resources, and record keeping.
  • Native American communities in the southwest.
  • Cultural diversities of the local area.

Ability to:

  • Accurately demonstrate knowledge of the content area and approved curriculum.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught and/or assigned.
  • Communicate with and obtain feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.
  • Appropriately apply the principles of student growth, development, and learning.
  • Nurture, motivate, teach and influence children.
  • Effectively utilize student assessment techniques and procedures.
  • Promote positive student behavior and a safe and healthy environment.
  • Create a positive atmosphere conducive to promoting student involvement and self-concept, recognizing student diversity.
  • Identify and respond to sensitive community and organizational issues, concerns and needs.
  • Participate in the development and administration of District goals, objectives and procedures.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing in the English language.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Maintain mental capacity which allows for effective interaction and communication with others.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Understand and respect the cultural diversities, and Native American traditional beliefs and practices, of students and their families.

Experience and Training Guideline:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

 

     Experience:  One year of related work experience in a school setting is desirable.

 

     Education:  Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is appropriate educational field.

 

     Licensure & Certificates:  Applicants must have BA degree and possess or have the ability to obtain a NM teaching license (New Mexico has an alternative licensure program for applicants who possess a BA degree or higher)

 

Working Conditions

 

     Environmental Conditions:  Classroom and field environment; may occasionally travel from site to site.

 

     Physical Conditions:  Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for moderate to heavy lifting and sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.
