Summary: To perform routine maintenance service, repairs, wash, tire repair, overhaul and maintain diesel and gasoline fuel motors used to operate school buses, vehicles, trucks and other equipment.
Mechanic:
Position Responsibilities: This is the entry level class in the Mechanic series. This class is distinguished from the Mechanic II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series including assist in the cleaning, maintenance and repair of school buses and motor vehicles, including electric, diesel and gasoline industrial vehicles. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience. Qualification Requirements: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; Some general automotive repair experience is desirable; Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid New Mexico commercial drivers license.
Mechanic II:
Position Responsibilities: This is the full journey level class within the Mechanic series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Mechanic I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including the repairing and maintenance of electric, diesel and gasoline industrial vehicles. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level upon receiving the appropriate license and certificate, or when filled from the outside, have prior experience and appropriate licensure and certificate. Qualification Requirements: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in a related field; Two years of industrial automotive repair and maintenance experience including public contact is desirable; Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Diesel Mechanic Certificate.
