Position:        Behavior Intervention Coach

Supervisor:    Director, Exceptional Programs

 

General Job Description: To provide support to the staff that directly work with students with behavioral challenges who are receiving individualized educational services through Special Education.  The Behavior Intervention Coach is a professional support position. The BIC will collaborate with educators in the various schools to analyze and develop behavioral interventions for students with disabilities

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1.     Complete Special Education File Reviews including the Functional Behavior Assessment

        (FBA), Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), IEP Goals and Schedule of services

2.     Conduct Behavior Observations

        a.     Analyze critical factors of existing behavior management strategies

        b.     Document elements of plan (BIP) that are implemented during the observation

        c.     Identify efficacy of strategies included in the plan (BIP)

        d.     Identify staff who work with the behaviorally challenged student

3.     Provide staff support

        a.     Attend staffing meetings (Team:  Special Education, General Education,

                parent(s), principal, Educational Assistants etc.)

        b.     With team participation, devise/revise plan (FBA/BIP)

        c.     Provide ongoing feedback to staff on the effectiveness of the interventions

d.     Review current research of behavior management

e.     Provide training to staff on “best practices of School-wide Positive Behavior

        Interventions and Supports

 

4.     Demonstrates a willingness to examine and implement change as appropriate

5.     Works productively with colleagues, parents, and students

6.     Demonstrates accurate knowledge of field

7.     Demonstrates appropriate behavior assessment techniques and procedures

8.     Demonstrates a professional demeanor as defined by the code of ethics professional

        educators

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional development as needed
  • Provide ongoing follow-up consultation to school staff to support implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Respect confidentiality of student(s), teacher(s) and school information
  • Participate in Professional development activities
  • Maintain necessary and appropriate licensure
  • Accept other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor

Qualifications:   

Applicants must have BA degree and possess or have an ability to obtain a Level III New Mexico Public Education Teaching License, Background in PBIS, proven experience teaching students who present with challenging behavior, Excellent communication skills. Special Education background and experience desired but not required. Knowledge of evidence based practices and theories in behavior interventions. Ability to deliver professional development and coach staff at all levels.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired.  The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.

Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology. 

Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision.  After hour work may be required.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.

 

All GMCS schools are eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).
