Description

To provide technical assistance to assigned administrator or professional in carrying out related services to students and parents, as recommended by special education specialists or other educational professionals.  

 

Supervision Received and Exercised

 

Receive immediate supervision from assigned higher level staff.  May exercise technical supervision over lower level clerical staff.

 

Essential Function Statements - Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Make home visits as assigned to monitor and follow-up on students' and families' progress.
  • Serve as a liaison between student, home, school and the community.  Interprets for non-English speaking students and parents.
  • Assist parents and students in their use of other community resources in such areas a health education, health services, social services and other related services.
  • Provide transportation services for parents and students when necessary for illnesses, tests, and emergencies.
  • Assist in scheduling and arranging for various tests and services needed by students that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate a need for remedial measures.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the assigned administrator or designee; prepare and proof correspondence and documents from rough drafts or direction; screen incoming calls and mail; prepare reports and other documents.
  • Maintain appropriate logs, files and records, various District forms and testing materials; and maintain strict confidentiality of all records and files of students and their families.
  • Assist in processing appropriate referrals and documents as ordered by specialists or professionals; maintain a tracking system of referrals, reevaluation and related services.
  • Adhere to the established treatment plans as developed by appropriate specialists or professionals; and to the established District policies and procedures in carrying out duties.
  • Attend chapter meetings and other community meetings to secure and impart information relating to District services.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff to office procedures, paper flow and tracking systems.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as needed or as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

 

Knowledge of:

  • Clerical principles and practices.
  • Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment and software.
  • Local cultures and geographical area.
  • The Navajo/Spanish language
  • Principles and procedures of filing and record keeping.
  • Basic practices and techniques of report auditing.

Ability to:

  • Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
  • Perform clerical duties.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Work independently in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests from parents, students and District employees.
  • Translate from Navajo/Spanish to English and English to Navajo/Spanish.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Perform various clerical functions, including record keeping and typing.

Experience and Training Guidelines:  Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying.  A typical way of obtaining the knowledge and abilities would be:

 

Experience:  Two years of general clerical experience including experience working with the public.

 

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalency (GED).  Additional specialized clerical training is desirable.

 

Licensure & Other Requirements:  Must have a valid driver’s license, defensive driving, pass a background check, and be able to obtain First Aid & CPR Certificate within 90 days of hire.

 

Working Conditions

 

Environmental Conditions:  Office and field environment; travel from site to site; work with computers.

 

Physical Conditions:  Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time; operation of motor vehicles.

GALLUP MCKINLEY COUNTY SCHOOLS DRIVING CREDENTIALS

  • State of New Mexico Medical Examiner’s Physical – This is a CDL physical. You are not a CDL driver, but the State of New Mexico requires that all liaisons have their physical information put on this physical form (see attachment) and placed in your file. You may request that your primary care doctor fill out the physical form. If you cannot find a doctor to fill out your physical form, you will have to go and see a CDL physical doctor which could cost you $105.00 or more.
  • Drug test – Call Alliance of Gallup at (505) 722-9596 to schedule an appointment.  The cost of this drug test is covered by the employee and will cost $40.00 or more.
  • Activity Driver Pre-Service Training – Contact Ruben Sanchez at (505) 870-7813, to get this completed at no cost to you.
  • Defensive Driving Certificate – Again, you can contact Ruben Sanchez to complete this at not cost to you.
  • FIRST AID / CPR – Courses are held in the Transportation Department. The fee for this course is $55.00. Contact Natalynne Tsosie in Transportation at (505) 721-1191 for the time and date of these courses. You may also go online to see what courses are offered in the area. We WILL NOT accept the certificates for courses taken ONLINE.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver License.
  • State of New Mexico Motor Vehicle Record.

 PLEASE NOTE: YOU CAN USE THE DISTRICT VEHICLE AT THIS TIME, BUT YOU CANNOT TRANSPORT ANY STUDENTS IN THE VEHICLE until you have completed all of the above requirements.

 

You must attach a copy of your High School Diploma or equivalency.  You must attach copies of ALL college transcripts to verify hours.
