Position:        Secondary Teacher/Business & Employability Skills Teacher

General Job Description:  Plan, prepare, implement, monitor, and evaluate a quality competency-based Business and Technology CTE (Career and Technical Education) Program leading to the development of skills sufficient to qualify for entry-level employment and/or post-secondary education using effective instruction with all students. Teacher will provide engaging lessons, activities, and opportunities for students to develop transferable skills needed by an individual to make them employable. Along with good technical understanding and subject knowledge, employers often outline a set of skills that they want from an employee. Teacher will introduce students to various career clusters, pathways, and post-secondary career opportunities. Teacher will be required to prepare students for interest’s profiler surveys/finder, ability and aptitude assessments, industry entrance exams, employment certification, and foundational job skills to ensure our students are well prepared, trained and certified to enter both collage and career pathways. The teacher is held accountable to the New Mexico Teacher Competencies and Domains. The teacher will also deliver State and District curriculum and provide equal educational opportunities for all students.

Qualifications: A BA degree, valid Secondary New Mexico teaching license and a Business Education endorsement is needed.  Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


Secondary teaching license with Business Education endorsement will need a minimum of 24 semester hours of coursework in Business coursework of which 12 must be earned at the upper division (generally numbered 300 or above or submit copies of passing score of a Business Content Knowledge Exam.


The NMPED licensure bureau will review Business coursework that includes business law, accounting, marketing, management, office machines, office procedures, shorthand, secretarial skills, computers, public relations, retailing, business policy, business analysis, finance, advertising, interviewing, and business math.


Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired.  The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.


Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology. 


Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision.  After hour work may be required.


Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.
