Oversee and coordinate on-site professional development and assist in the deployment and maintenance of district instructional initiatives as defined in the District Educational Plan for Student Success (EPSS) implement program goals and objectives; and to perform a variety of administrative and technical tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility.

Essential Function Statements- Essential  and other important responsibilities  and duties may include,  but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Oversee and coordinate on-site professional development activities including education assessment, support to teachers and training of teachers.
  2. Assist teachers in implementing all instructional strategies and initiatives outlined in both the district and school EPSS.
  3. Mentor and support new teachers with district instructional and program initiatives which include the development of systems toward continuous improvements, data collection and analysis, instructional strategies, Six Traits Writing, Individual Educational Plans, Oral Language Development, English Language Development, Classroom Management, record keeping and scheduling.
  4. Document professional development, support, and technical assistance that is provided to each educational staff.
  5. Assist in planning and providing professional development throughout the district.
  6. Actively participate in District Goal Teams.
  7. Collaborate with Learning Services Leadership staff, principals and school leadership teams in developing systems and processes for collecting and analyzing data, developing a school site professional development plan, and developing both the District and school's EPSS.
  8. Assist in the planning, organizing and maintenance of the District's Colleague Mentoring Program, Professional Development Dossier support and assessment programs.
  9. Collaborate with Regional Quality Center (RQC) to support the implementation of Continuous Improvement and design plans to support a higher degree implementation.
  10. Maintain knowledge and awareness of new developments and research in education and apply this knowledge when consulting with school sites.
  11. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Marginal Functions:
  1. Provide responsible staff assistance to Directors and Assistant Superintendents as needed.
  2. Oversee the work of lower level staff.
  3. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Knowledge of:

  • Basic operations, services and activities of a school district.
  • Operational characteristics, services and activities of a school district instruction program.
  • Program evaluations methods appropriate to professional development programs.
  • Modern, effective and innovative teaching practices and techniques.
  • Classroom management and disciplinary techniques and methods.
  • Principles and practices of curriculum development and implementation.
  • Principles and practices of educational research methods and procedures, program development, administration and assessment.
  • Principles of student growth, development and learning, and the application of these toward student achievement and general wellness.
  • Modern office equipment including computers.
  • Local cultural diversities and the Native American traditional beliefs of students and their families.
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and safety regulations.

Ability to:

  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources for content areas.
  • Collect, analyze and utilize assessment data toward student academic progress and instructional planning.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:




Four years of elementary or secondary teaching experience.  One year of administration and/or lead supervisory experience is desired. Professional development experience is desirable.




Equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in an education field. Masters degree preferred.


License or Certificate:


Possession of, or ability to obtain, the Level II teaching license from the New Mexico Public Education Department. Level III Instructional Leader license preferred.




Environmental Conditions:


Office and field environment; travel from site to site; works with computers.


Physical Conditions:


Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time; operation of motor vehicles.
